About Us

Who we are

DocuFilm is a collective of three filmmakers: Wouter de Kuijper, Monique Fuchs, and Robbert Clignett. Since 2024, we have been working together to explore society with a curious, open mind. We question the mainstream narrative, seeking to understand what our changing world means for the future. We are not just filmmakers; we are seekers of stories that inspire, challenge, and bridge the gap between people.

Our story

For us, documentary filmmaking doesn’t begin when the camera starts rolling, it starts much earlier. It begins with an encounter, a question, or an unexpected moment that simply won’t let go. On this page, we share the stories behind our films. The journeys we take, the people we meet, the insights we gain, and the moments that eventually find their way to the screen. This is the foundation upon which our documentaries are built.

Where it all began

DocuFilm has existed since 2011. Over these years, several documentaries have been produced under this name, each posing questions about the world around us in its own unique way.

In 2024, a new chapter began. With a new team of filmmakers, we are building upon that foundation, focusing on stories that help us better understand the major changes of our time.

Many of the questions that occupy us today are not new. They have emerged from earlier encounters, films, and insights that have shaped us as creators. Some of these can be found in the documentaries previously produced under the DocuFilm name.

Below, you will find a selection of that earlier work and the stories that ultimately brought us to where we are today.

Keep Believing (2018)

What happens when millions of people are denied the chance to live with dignity, simply because of the family they were born into?

Keep Believing takes you into the heart of Nagwa, a slum in the holy city of Varanasi, where generations of Dalits, once labelled “untouchable”, continue to face discrimination that shapes every aspect of daily life. Yet this is not a story defined by poverty. It is a story about people who refuse to let injustice determine their future.

For more than thirty five years, Frans Baartmans chose to live alongside this community, standing with them in their fight for dignity and helping to create opportunities where hope once seemed impossible. As Frans prepares to leave India, Keep Believing reminds us that the struggle for equality and human dignity is far from over. It is a powerful story of resilience, shared humanity and the extraordinary difference one person can make by choosing not to look away.
