FOLLOW THE SIGNS
In Production (2025)
Be part of our regenerative and transformative journey
Our new Follow the Signs docuseries comes at a critical moment for regenerative, natural and conscious farmers and land stewards. Instead of thriving, many are surviving. Rather than being supported, the current system is working against them.
Follow the Signs: the Journey
Since April 2025, Peter Michel, Mieke and their son Ravi Heilmann have been on a continuous journey by campervan to empower pioneering family farms working with Nature rather than against it. To help these land stewards get out of the uphill battle, Peter Michel has developed a 1000 Year Vision combined with a concrete financial roadmap and hands-on guidance. Through their journey, on which they are following the signs they get, the Dutch Heilmann family is planting seeds of inspiration. By doing so, they aim to transform lives and make these struggling farms future proof.
1000 Year Vision
The essence of this Vision is perpetual steward-ownership: farmland held in a trust, not for quick profit, but to be cared for and passed on. Together with a local or regional “Forever Foundation,” it helps secure farmland for future generations. This model creates true independence for farmers, nourishes and connects their communities, and offers a healthier way of living and working—in harmony with Nature.
Follow the Signs: the Docuseries
In June 2025, we felt the need to follow the family’s journey throughout Europe and beyond. We are documenting their visits to selected pioneering farmers and land stewards, starting with England and Ireland. The family’s journey, called Follow the Signs, is also the name of this docuseries.
At DocuFilm, we strongly believe that there is an urgent need to raise awareness around how farmers and land stewards can build a future-proof financial, regenerative and long-term foundation for current and future generations.

Episode I: Seeds of the Future
(Filmed in June and October 2025)
Luke Hasell is an entrepreneurial and visionary farmer who co-founded The Story Farms in the Chew Valley, North Somerset. When their father, a conventional farmer, passed away in 2004, Luke and his brother Marcus inherited the family estate. Luke followed in his father’s footsteps, converting to holistic, organic and regenerative farming, stewarding the land and diversifying into new ventures. From organising The Valley Fest—a regional, regenerative festival—to co-founding The Community Farm and from co-owning the award-winning veg-led Root restaurants in Bristol, Wells and a new one in Bath to hosting weddings and a plethora of events,
Luke’s work and mission revolves around healthy soil, food, nature and local connection. But instead of thriving, Luke spends very long days juggling many balls in the air, facing major financial challenges, and struggling to keep his farm and numerous businesses afloat. Co-creating a 1000 Year Vision and roadmap, Luke recently co-founded the Forever Farm Foundation in view of securing a brighter future and attracting catalytic capital to develop a bioregion (or regen region) involving other farmers and land stewards in the Chew Valley and wider area.
In this first Episode, we follow Peter Michel, Mieke and Ravi during two visits to The Story Farms and The Community Farm, in June and October 2025. We also dive into the story of the Heilmann family: what drives them to leave everything behind in The Netherlands, what made them decide to embark on this transformative journey and how are they following the signs?
Episode II: Roots for Regeneration
(Filmed in September and October 2025)
This Episode will feature two visionary farms and land stewards in Ireland:
Moy Hill Farm in County Clare was founded in 2013 by Fergal Smith, a former professional surfer whose father used to be an organic farmer. With a lot of drive and a big vision, Fergal felt he had to do something to help create a healthier future for his community and nurture the land. Fast forward to 2025, he is the only Irish farmer among Europe’s Top 50 Farmers and an advocate for Korean Natural Farming. Fergal’s 1000 Year Vision includes creating the Moy Hill Farm School, which will serve as Ireland’s first comprehensive regenerative and natural Agri-Education Centre. His vision is to address Ireland’s aging farming population and the declining number of new farmers entering the ecosystem through knowledge sharing, internships for young farmers, and making it easier for the next generation to access and steward land across Ireland and beyond.
The Happy Pear in County Wicklow was co-founded by the Irish identical Happy Pear Twins, Stephen and David Flynn. Just like Fergal, they were once professional athletes and, after years of travelling, decided to become vegans and start a food revolution in 2004. Today, they inspire 600,000+ Facebook followers, 500,000+ YouTube subscribers and over 1 million followers on Instagram to eat well, feel good and live better.
They co-own and run an organic shop-café-restaurant, a regenerative farm, and produce their own The Happy Pear product line. Both combine youthful energy with a mission for a regenerative future, but their ideals come with financial pressure. Through a 1000 Year Vision and Forever Fund, the twins with Peter Michel’s guidance are exploring how regenerative stewardship can be secured for generations to come.
