NO WORRIES FOR TOMORROW
A timeless portrait from 2007.
The Story
Some stories stay with you. Geen Zorgen om Morgen (No Worries for Tomorrow) is one of those stories. To this day, this documentary strikes a chord with people of all ages and backgrounds.
While Amsterdam is still asleep, the unconventional Willem searches through what others have discarded. He isn’t looking for trash, but for hidden value. At the Waterlooplein market, his finds find a new home. In this simple daily practice lies a greater message about freedom, conscious living, and the question of what is truly of value.
His charismatic presence, his unique perspective on the world, and his way of life remain awakening and refreshing. Perhaps that is why this poetic documentary still touches so many people today.
"Willem opened my eyes as a filmmaker and as a human being. His awake, critical view of the world resonated deeply with me. From that moment on, I knew: this is my path. This is the kind of documentary I want to make."
The “Aha!” Moment: Coming home as a filmmaker
No Worries for Tomorrow was my turning point. It was the moment I realized: this is what I am capable of, this is who I am. Portraying Willem—a man who countered a world of corruption and greed with love and art—felt like the purest form of filmmaking.
Yet, it was followed by the struggle many creators recognize: how do you stay true to that mission in a system that often demands commercial compromises?
Why we speak our own language
With DocuFilm, our team has decided to step off that treadmill. Together with Monique and Robbert, I have realized that there is something essential missing in today’s media landscape: stories that inspire, that do not judge, and that address the viewer as a human being rather than a consumer.
We have decided to speak our own language. Because we believe that this authentic voice is too often drowned out by headlines and algorithms.
The frequency of DocuFilm
We are three filmmakers from different generations, yet we are on the same frequency. We connected through a shared need: we no longer want to go along with the polarization of mainstream narratives. We feel most at home with people who do their own research, make deliberate choices, and long for a life that aligns with their own values.
That feels like coming home. We do not see our documentaries as critical indictments, but as positive explorations. We see people all over the world who think differently, live more locally, and are building healthy alternatives. Those are the stories we want to tell.
Looking forward, together
No Worries for Tomorrow marked our beginning. The questions, insights, and sense of wonder from back then still form the heart of everything we create today. We are searching for simplicity, truth, and closeness.
But we cannot do this alone. To continue telling these stories in a structural way, we need a community of people who, like us, are looking for what is truly of value.
What do you see when you look past the surface of the world? Join our movement. Let’s create stories together that don’t just show what is happening, but, more importantly, what is possible.
